A couple of days ago, I mentioned Boomerang Logic—the ancient, mystical art of stealing good ideas from other industries and bastardizing them into something useful for your own business.
I gave the example of a mortgage company client who had a boring, lifeless landing page with a single input box.
So I stole a better landing page template from a completely different industry—mine.
Instead of the usual, uninspiring form, I added a compelling headline and spicy bullets to build intrigue:
- 🔥 This is a BULLET! Exciting!
- 🔥 This is another one!
- 🔥 PLUS, another!
Boomerang.
You twirl your brain into an adjacent or completely unrelated niche… steal the best stuff, then repurpose it for your business.
It’s so simple that you almost feel stupid for not doing it already.
But here’s the thing—most people don’t.
And that’s how they get stuck in an echo chamber.
Where Else Can You Use Boomerang Logic?
Another example?
Henry Ford famously borrowed the idea for his automotive assembly line after visiting meatpacking plants and watching their conveyor belt system in action.
He wasn’t in the meat business. But he saw efficiency at work and applied it to something completely different—cars.

Here’s one that’s been making ecommerce stores millions for years:
How Ecommerce Brands “Stole” The Info-Product Funnel
A few years ago, I noticed more ecommerce stores running upsell funnels—a tactic ripped straight from info marketing.
Here’s how it works:
You decide to buy a 6-pack of salted beef paste–your favorite.
You hit “Checkout” and…
WHAM!
🚨 Would you like to add a SECOND 6-pack for 20% off?
Well, of course. You have many mouths to feed.
You click “Buy” and INSTANTLY add it to your order. No annoying “add to cart” nonsense.
Now that’s over with…
🚨 Would you like to upgrade to a YEARLY subscription for 25% off?
Absolutely. You’re going to eat it anyway, right?
Hands shaking at your good fortune, you click “Buy” again.
🚨 Would you like to add a can opener for just $9?
And so on, until you’ve gone from canned meat enthusiast to full-on apocalypse prepper.
Where did ecommerce stores get this idea?
From info products.
A harmless $5 ebook somehow turns into a $15,000 coaching mastermind before you even realize what happened.
And these upsell funnels work for both digital AND physical products.
So why aren’t you using them?
How 80/20 Copy Uses the Same System
Take 80/20 Copy—my humble $50 copywriting “blueprint.”
Seems simple enough.
But who knows what kind of one-time offers I’ve buried inside the post-purchase upsell funnel?
- Stuff you won’t find listed anywhere else.
- Stuff that makes smart people say, “Well, I was going to buy it anyway, so I might as well grab this too…”
Boomerang.
